Lindum Wildflower & Meadow Grass Mat

Lindum Wildflower & Meadow Grass Mat

Lindum Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mat is a taller growing mix of native wildflowers and grasses growing in a moisture retentive biodegradable felt mat to provide the appearance of a true wildflower meadow on a roof.

The mixture is ideal to complement the local habitat or to replace the habitat lost by the footprint of the building.

The mixture consists of non-aggressive meadow grasses mixed with 20 species of drought tolerant native wildflowers including Cowslip, Lady’s Bedstraw, Meadow Buttercup, Red Campion, Self Heal, Yarrow and Yellow Rattle.  Flowering is over a prolonged period (from April until September) creating visual interest and offering an excellent habitat for insects, butterflies and birds.

Height of plants when flowering is 40-60cm. The plants need a full cut in late autumn, removing all the cuttings.

Lindum Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mat requires a minimum substrate depth of 100mm

Landhouse, Somerset

Lindum's Wildflower and Meadow Grass Mat has been used on an innovative building 'Landhouse' in Somerset.

The Landhouse concept was designed by Mark Merer following a Land Art project in Seattle to develop a housing scheme in a rural area that blends into the landscape. The Landhouse in Somerton is a prototype and uses modular building techniques to make it cost effective to develop.

Natural building company, Earthed, were contracted by Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) to build a cob and timber frame viewing gallery to house the new exhibition of wetland mammals on the site. The cob walls in combination with a timber frame structure support a wildflower meadow living roof and are finished with a lime plaster and earthen render.
